Zollinger-Ellison syndrome occurs in 0.1-1% of patients with peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum. The disease is thought to occur mainly between the ages of 20 and 60. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ulcerogenic pancreatic adenoma, gastrinoma) is a rare gastrin-producing tumour originating in the pancreas or duodenum. Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison may include surgical removal of the tumour, treatment of the ulcer and control of symptoms associated with excess acidity. Sometimes drugs that reduce gastrin levels, such as proton pump inhibitors, are used. Today we will talk about one of them, the drug Prilosec, which is well known in United Kingdom. In our article you will find out who should take this drug, how and for what conditions, as well as its contraindications and side effects. And if you need to buy a new pack of the drug, our combination – a good price and the possibility to order it without a prescription – is waiting for you. With just a few clicks, you can place your order online and have it delivered to the address you specify by our qualified specialists in the shortest possible time.
What is Prilosec
Prilosec is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is used to treat conditions caused by excess stomach acid. The active substance omeprazole is used to speed up the healing of erosive oesophagitis (damage to the oesophagus caused by stomach acid).
Indications
Indications for use of the product are:
- gastric and duodenal ulcer
- reflux oesophagitis;
- erosive-ulcerative lesions of the stomach and duodenum associated with NSAIDs, also associated with Helicobacter pylori (as part of a complex therapy)
- Stress ulcers;
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Contraindications to Use
Contraindications include hypersensitivity to one of the components of the drug, pregnancy, lactation, age under 18 years. Not to be used concomitantly with preparations containing rilpivirine, atazanavir and nelfinavir. Caution should be exercised in case of hepatic or renal insufficiency. Blood gastrin levels should be checked before starting treatment.
Before starting Prilosec, always consult your doctor and inform him/her of any medical conditions, medications you are taking and allergies you may have.
Side effects
Some of the side effects associated with the use of Prilosec may include headache, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, flatulence, fatigue and insomnia. Serious side effects, such as sore throat, lupus, decreased magnesium levels and gastric infections caused by bacteria, are quite rare and may be associated with prolonged use and/or exceeding the recommended dose. In case of side effects, consult your doctor.
Directions for use and dosage
Prilosec tablets are generally taken once daily, 30-60 minutes before meals, with water. The duration of treatment varies and depends on the pathology being treated. Follow your doctor’s recommendations and never self-medicate.
