Indications for use
Zovirax tablets are indicated for viral infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by herpes simplex virus (HPV), genital herpes, prevention of herpes infections in immunocompromised and immunodeficient people, varicella (chickenpox), herpes zoster.
Dosage and use of Zovirax
Zovirax should be taken with water after meals. Adequate water balance should be maintained during treatment.
The treatment period for adults is 5 days; in cases of severe primary infection, the treatment period should be prolonged. Adults should take 200 mg tablets every four hours (5 times daily). In severely immunosuppressed patients, the dose should be doubled.
In prophylaxis of recurrent herpes infections, a dose of 200 mg every six hours or 400 mg every 12 hours. In some patients, treatment becomes effective when the dose is increased to 800 mg daily. An interval between treatment cycles of six months to one year should be respected.
