What is Advair Diskus
Advair Diskus for inhalation is a combination medicine used to prevent asthma attacks. It is not a lifesaver for asthma attacks or bronchospasm. In case of an attack, use only fast-acting inhalable medicines. For the medicine to be effective, it must be used regularly. It does not work immediately and should not be used to relieve sudden asthma attacks.
Indications
Advair Diskus is used to control and prevent asthma attacks (wheezing and whistling) caused by asthma or an ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema).
Contraindications
The main contraindication is allergic reactions to fluticasone, salmeterol or milk proteins. In addition, the medicinal product should not be administered to children under 4 years of age.
Caution should be exercised if the patient suffers from the following diseases and phenomena: pulmonary tuberculosis, fungal, viral or bacterial respiratory infections, thyrotoxicosis, diabetes, uncontrolled hypokalaemia, uncontrolled idiopathic hypertrophic arterial hypertension, arrhythmias, hypoxia of various genesis, cataracts, glaucoma, hypothyroidism, osteoporosis, pregnancy, lactation period.
Do not use the drug without a prescription and be sure to inform your doctor of any diseases, allergies and medications you are taking. This will help the doctor prescribe the appropriate therapy.
Side effects
Like other medicines, Advair Diskus can sometimes cause side effects. The most common side effects include: headache, muscle and bone pain, back pain, nausea, vomiting, throat irritation, white patches in the mouth or throat, nasal congestion, sneezing, sore throat, coughing, hoarseness.
More dangerous situations include wheezing, choking or other breathing problems after use of the drug, chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, tremors, fever, chills, neck sores, skin ulcers, flu-like symptoms, cough with yellow or green mucus, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain, increased urination, hunger, dry mouth, nosebleeds.
If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor immediately.
Dosage and Administration
Advair Diskus is a powder form of fluticasone and salmeterol supplied in a special inhaler, pre-filled with blister packs containing metered doses of the medicine.
Always consult your doctor before you start using the medicine. Your doctor will prescribe a treatment regimen and an individual daily dose.
The inhaler should be used in a horizontal, flat or upright position. Use the medicine by mouth according to your doctor’s instructions, usually twice a day (morning and evening at 12-hour intervals).
