What is Aldactone?

Aldactone is a diuretic tablet, available in 25 mg and 100 mg doses. The main active ingredient, spironolactone, promotes the excretion of urine from the body and reduces the excretion of calcium and urea.

The diuretic effect is obtained from the second to the fifth day of taking the drug.

Indications for use of Aldactone

Aldactone tablets are indicated for:

  • oedema in nephrotic syndrome;
  • oedemas due to chronic heart failure

  • hypokalaemia;

Dosage and administration

Dosage and duration of treatment are determined individually and depend on the symptomatology and hormonal status.

The tablets are taken orally with water. Dosage for oedema: the daily dose is 100-200 mg, divided into two or three doses per day. Sometimes 300 mg is prescribed, depending on the severity of the disease. Aldactone treatment is mainly prescribed in combination with thiazide or loop diuretics. The duration of treatment is 2-3 weeks.

In cases of potassium depletion or hyperaldosteronism, the 300 mg dose is divided into 2-3 daily doses.

Spironolactone should not be taken concomitantly with ACE inhibitors, other diuretics, salicylates, oral anticoagulants, digitotoxin, eprosartan, losartan, candesartan, lithium carbonate, noradrenaline, triptorelin, gonadorelin, buserelin. When Does Spironolactone Start To Work?
