What is Altace

Altace is an ACE inhibitor, available in 1.25 mg, 2.5 mg, 5 mg and 10 mg tablets. The main active ingredient, ramipril, has a hypotensive effect by increasing coronary and renal blood flow.

The therapeutic effect starts 1-2 hours later and is most active 3-6 hours after ingestion.

Indications

Dosage and Administration

The tablets are taken orally, independent of meals. The recommended starting dose is 2.5 mg daily; the dose is gradually increased every 2-3 weeks. The maximum daily dose is 10 mg per day. If there is no therapeutic effect, combination therapy is prescribed. If a patient is taking diuretics, the dose should be reduced or discontinued several days before starting treatment with Altace. The starting dose for these patients is 1.25 mg per day.

Contraindications

Do not take Altace in case of hypersensitivity to ramipril or other components of the drug, cardiogenic shock, severe arterial hypotension, severe renal or hepatic insufficiency, acute myocardial infarction, pregnancy and lactation, age below 18 years, unstable angina pectoris.

Side effects

Apparent decrease in blood pressure, tachycardia, arrhythmia, peripheral oedema, weakness, headache, insomnia, tremor, dry cough, bronchitis, dyspnoea, nausea, vomiting, inflammatory processes in the stomach and intestines, muscle cramps, chest pain.
