What is Anafranil

Anafranil is used to treat various depressions, obsessive-compulsive syndromes, chronic pain syndrome and nocturnal enuresis in children. It is available in 10 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg and 75 mg tablets.

Indications

In adults, Anafranil is indicated for depression, depression in schizophrenic and psychotic patients, chronic pain syndrome, phobias and panic disorder.

In children (over 6 years): nocturnal enuresis, obsessive-compulsive syndromes.

Directions for use and dosage

A dose of 25 mg 2-3 times a day is prescribed, increasing every few days by 25 mg up to a maximum daily dose of 4-6 tablets of 25 mg. In case of severe symptoms, the daily dose may be increased to 250 mg. After improvement, maintenance treatment is prescribed: 25 mg 2-4 times daily.

It is recommended to continue treatment for at least 6 months.

In children: in obsessive-compulsive disorder, 25 mg daily, then increase the dose to 3 mg per kilogram of body weight. In nocturnal enuresis: 6-8 years – 20-30 mg daily, 9-12 years – 25 mg once or twice daily, over 12 years – 1-3 tablets of 25 mg.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, concomitance with MAO inhibitors, acute intoxication with CNS depressants or alcohol, acute urinary retention, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, pylorostenosis, paralytic ileus.

Adverse reactions

The most frequent adverse reactions are: sleep disorders, increased anxiety, constipation, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, hallucinations, tremor, speech disorders, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, anorexia, diarrhoea, urinary disorders.
