What is Bupropion

Bupropion is an antidepressant, available in 150 mg tablets. Main pharmacological action: selective inhibitor of neuronal uptake of catecholamines (noradrenaline and dopamine) with minimal effect on serotonin uptake.

Indications

Bupropion is indicated for the treatment of depression.

Dosage and Administration

The daily dose of Bupropion is divided into two parts and taken at least 8 hours apart. The maximum single dose should not exceed 200 mg; if the patient suffers from insomnia, the dose should be reduced.

The therapeutic effect manifests itself at least 14 days after the start of therapy. Occasionally, a dose of 200 mg may not produce the desired effect, which can be improved by increasing the dose to 300 or 400 mg daily divided into two doses. The duration of therapy is usually six months and bupropion at 300 mg daily remains effective for up to one year.
