What is Celebrex

Let’s move on to the more substantial part of our material. Celebrex is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that will be your salvation for intervertebral joint inflammations, painful syndromes and even the treatment of primary deminorrhea.

Celebrex Indications

Celebrex indications include the symptomatic treatment of:

  • Osteoarthritis (degenerative-dystrophic joint injury caused by damage to the cartilage of the joint surfaces).
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (chronic systemic autoimmune disease primarily affecting the joints);
  • ankylosing spondylitis (inflammation of the intervertebral joints, which causes them to fuse, making the spine look like a hard shell that restricts movement);
  • pain syndrome: back pain, musculoskeletal pain, post-operative pain and other types of pain;
  • treatment of primary dysmenorrhoea (uterine pain around menstruation is usually functional, not related to internal organ disease).

Contraindications to the use of Celebrex

Hypersensitivity to celecoxib or other components of the medicinal product, acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; presence of allergic reactions to sulphonamides urticaria or other allergic reactions following the use of acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs; treatment of perioperative pain during coronary artery bypass surgery; acute gastrointestinal bleeding.

Do not take Celebrex in the third trimester of pregnancy or during lactation and do not administer to children.

Directions for use and dosage

The tablets should be taken with plenty of water, without chewing or crushing, regardless of meals.

Before starting treatment, consult your doctor about the diagnosis and dosage of medication suitable for you. The recommended doses may differ from those given below.

In adults with osteoarthritis, a daily dose of 200 mg in 1 or 2 administrations is prescribed. Doses up to 400 mg per day have been used in clinical studies.
In rheumatoid arthritis, the drug is prescribed in a daily dose of 200-400 mg divided into 2 doses. Doses up to 800 mg per day have been used in clinical studies.

How many times a day should Celebrex be taken?

Depending on the diagnosis and severity of the disease, the medicine is usually taken once a day or divided into 2 daily doses.

When Celebrex Works

The medicine is well absorbed and takes effect 2 to 3 hours after taking it.

How Many Days Should Celebrex Be Taken?

Treatment usually lasts 7 to 14 days, but you should follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. A different length of treatment may be necessary.

Should it be taken before or after meals?

Celebrex should be taken independently of meals. However, to reduce the effect on the stomach wall, anti-inflammatory drugs should be taken after meals. Currently, the most effective drugs for the treatment and prevention of NSAID gastropathy are the proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole, esomeprazole), which are most commonly prescribed when Celebrex is taken.
