What is Cymbalta

Cymbalta (the active ingredient of which is duloxetine) is a tablet used in the treatment of depression and diabetic neuropathy. It is available in doses of 20 mg, 30 mg, 40 mg and 60 mg, which makes it easy to take on a regular daily basis. Duloxetine normalises the pain threshold and reduces inflammatory pain by slowing down the transmission of impulses in the CNS.

Diabetic neuropathy, depression, generalised anxiety disorder, chronic musculoskeletal pain syndrome, chronic low back pain, osteoarthritis of the knee joints).

Cymbalta Usage and Dosage

The tablets are taken orally, with or without meals, once daily. The standard daily dose is 60 mg, but some patients are prescribed a higher dose of 120 mg per day, divided into two doses. For patients with liver dysfunction, the daily dose is 30 mg; in case of cirrhosis, the doctor reduces and adjusts the dose.

For elderly patients, the dosage remains unchanged at the standard daily dose of 60 mg.

Cymbalta should not be taken in case of hypersensitivity to duloxetine or other components of the medicine or if taken concomitantly with MAO inhibitors, fluvoxamine, fiprofloxacin, enoxacin. Administration is also prohibited in cases of: children under 18 years of age, uncompensated angle-closure glaucoma, glucose-fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, severe CPP, uncontrolled hypertension.

Caution should be exercised when prescribing in patients at increased risk of hyponatraemia (advanced age, cirrhosis in the patient’s history, if dehydrated or taking diuretics).

How to Stop Taking Cymbalta

Abrupt discontinuation should be avoided. If treatment with duloxetine is stopped, the dose should be gradually reduced over one to two weeks. If symptoms recur after a dose reduction or treatment interruption, the doctor may advise continuing the previous dose and reducing it more gradually after a period of time.

How long it takes to take effect

Maximum effectiveness is reached after 2-4 weeks of treatment, with therapy sometimes lasting up to 6-8 weeks.

30 Mg OR 60 Mg
