What is Fucidine?

Fucidine is an antibacterial drug, available in cream form. 1 gram of cream contains 0.02 g of fucidic acid, active against Staphylococcus aureus, Corynebacterium pneumoniae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas and Gram-negative bacteria. Excipients: butylated hydroxyanisole, glycerol, ethyl, potassium sorbate, polysorbate 60, paraffin and water.

The product acts as a bactericide and bacteriostatic and destroys bacterial cells; the toxicity of the preparation is low.

Indications For Use Of Fucidine

Fucidine is indicated in the treatment of the following conditions and diseases: osteomyelitis, pneumonia, septicaemia, endocarditis, acne, pseudomembranous colitis, wound surface infections, impetigo, erythrasma, boils, carbuncles, paronychia, sycosis of the beard, cystic fibrosis, folliculitis.

The use of Fucidine is recommended in cases of penicillin allergy and renal insufficiency.

Dosage and method of administration of Fucidine

The cream is used for external application. It is applied in a thin layer three times a day and the treatment lasts for 10 days.

Contraindications

Fucidine is not for use in the following conditions: pregnancy and lactation, liver disease, biliary tract obstruction, jaundice (also in infants), treatment with hepatotoxic drugs, allergy to fusidine and other ingredients of the preparation, infections in infants and premature infants. Viral infections, for which the use of the drug is prohibited: varicella zoster, herpes zoster, perioral dermatitis, herpes, tuberculosis and syphilis of the skin, fungal infections and infections affecting the skin under the hair of the head.

Special indications

The maximum period of use of Fucidine cream is two weeks. If prolonged treatment is required, it should be intercalated and replaced by another therapy.
