What Is Grifulvin V And Why Is It Used?

Grifulvin V, whose active ingredient is griseofulvin (an antifungal antibiotic), is used to treat skin, hair and nail fungus. The product prevents the growth of fungi.

Indications For Use Grifulvin V

Grifulvin V is indicated for patients with mycoses of the skin, hair follicle and nails. It is used in epidermatophytosis of the scalp, foot, inguinal epidermatophytosis, trichophytosis, onychomycosis, sporotrichosis, cryptococcosis, tinea and herpes zoster, nocardiasis, chromoblastomycosis.

Dosage and Method of Administration

The medicine is taken during or after a meal, with 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil. Microsporiasis and trichophytosis: 21-22 mg per 1 kg body weight per day in children, 500-1000 mg per day in adults. For onychosis and scalp lesions: 16 mg/kg for children, 625 mg for adults, up to 1 g daily.

The tablets should be taken daily until the fungal test is negative, then, without changing the dose, every other day for a fortnight, then twice a week for a fortnight. For onychomycosis, the drug is prescribed for at least eight months of treatment.

If you miss a dose, follow the treatment schedule and do not take two doses at the same time, but skip them.

Grifulvin V Contraindications

Do not use if you have liver or blood disorders, diabetes, lupus, use during pregnancy and lactation or if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.

Side effects
