Directions For Use And Dosage

Tablets should be taken with food, according to the prescribed dosage. Start with the lowest dose and increase gradually to avoid adverse reactions. For adults: The initial daily dose is 15 mg divided into several doses. For the first three days, 5 mg three times a day; on days 4-6, 10 mg three times a day; on days 7-9, 15 mg three times a day; and on days 10-12, 20 mg three times a day.
Therapeutic effect in most patients is observed after using 30-75 mg daily. Do not exceed a dose of more than 100 mg per day. The duration of treatment is determined individually, depending on the patient’s condition. Abrupt withdrawal of the drug should be avoided and the daily dose should be gradually reduced.

Elderly patients: the dose should be increased gradually, with special care to avoid the risk of side effects.

Children: treatment should be initiated with a minimum dose of 0.3 mg per kilogram of body weight, divided into 4 equal doses. The dose for children is increased weekly until a therapeutic effect is observed. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 40 mg for children under 8 years of age, 60 mg for children over 8 years of age. Lioresal is not administered to children weighing less than 33 kg.

Contraindications

Do not prescribe in case of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients, gastric or duodenal ulcer or porphyria.

Side effects

Adverse reactions may occur frequently at the start of treatment or when the dose is sharply increased, and will cease when the dose is reduced. The most common adverse reactions during treatment with baclofen are insomnia, confusion, euphoria, depression, hallucinations, agitation, nightmares, increased seizures, apathy, increased fatigue, headache, dizziness, ataxia, paraesthesia, impaired vision, speech or taste, tinnitus, tachycardia, chest pain, decreased blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, liver function disorders, allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling), increased sweating, tremor, weakness, myalgia, urinary disorders, haematuria, anuria, erectile dysfunction, impotence, breathing difficulties, nasal congestion.

Use During Pregnancy and Lactation

Baclofen crosses the placental barrier, so it should only be taken if the apparent benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the foetus. The drug penetrates little into breast milk and no adverse reactions in the newborn due to ingestion have been reported.

Drug Interactions

Concomitant use of Baclofen with other CNS drugs, synthetic drugs or alcohol increases its sedative effects.

In patients with vascular and respiratory disorders, the heart and respiratory system should be monitored. Tricyclic antidepressants increase the effects of Baclofen and reduce muscle tone.

How many times a day should Lioresal be taken?

For adults, the daily dose is divided into three equal doses; for children, 2 to 4 doses, but 4 equal doses are better.

When does Lioresal start to work?

The therapeutic effect is usually achieved with a daily dose of 30-75 mg.

How many days should the treatment be continued?

The duration of therapy depends on the efficacy of the drug in the patient; if the 6-week treatment does not produce the desired result, therapy is prolonged.

What Not to Eat During Baclofen Treatment
