What is Mestinon

Mestinon is a drug that improves neuromuscular transmission, gastrointestinal motility, bladder and bronchial tone and endocrine gland secretion. The main active substance is pyridostigmine bromide.

Indications For Use

Mestinon is prescribed for myasthenia gravis, intestinal atony, atonic constipation, paralytic intestinal obstruction, postoperative bladder atony and urinary retention.

Directions for use and posology

In myasthenia gravis in children over 12 years of age: 30-180 mg 2-4 times daily.
In children under 12 years of age: initial dose up to 6 years is 30 mg, from 6 to 12 years 60 mg.
Other indications: children 15-60 mg daily, adults 60-240 mg daily, divided into several doses.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, bromides, peritonitis, hypersensitivity to anticholinesterase agents, mechanical obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract and urinary tract, concurrently with depolarising muscle relaxants.

Side effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, bronchial secretion, diarrhoea, bradycardia, constricted pupils, muscle spasm and weakness.
