What is Tenormin and how does it affect the body?

Tenormin, whose active ingredient is atenolol, is a cardioselective beta-blocker. It slows the heart rate and reduces the oxygen demand of the heart muscle. It has anti-arrhythmic, anti-anginal and hypotensive effects. It is often used in conjunction with other drugs for hypertension, such as diuretics (diuretic tablets), when the use of one drug alone is not sufficient to control blood pressure.

Indications

Tenormin is indicated for the treatment of:

  • high blood pressure
  • Coronary heart disease (prevention of angina attacks).
  • Heart rhythm disorders: sinus tachycardia, ventricular extrasystoles, prevention of supraventricular tachyarrhythmias;
  • acute myocardial infarction with stable haemodynamic parameters.
