What is Tizanidine

The main pharmacological effect of the drug is central skeletal muscle relaxant. It also has an analgesic effect and is effective in acute pain spasm and chronic spasticity, and reduces the risk of seizures. Tizanidine is available in tablet form, with a dosage of 2 mg.

Indications For Use

Tizanidine is prescribed for: painful muscle spasm associated with static and functional diseases of the cervical and transverse spine; after surgical interventions such as disc herniation or osteoarthritis of the hip joint; spasticity in neuralgic diseases; myelopathy; degenerative diseases of the spinal cord; cerebral circulation disorders and cerebral palsy.

Directions for use and posology

The tablets should be taken orally, independent of meals. The dosage regimen is determined individually, taking into account the indication, efficacy and tolerability of the therapy. In painful spasms: 2 mg or 4 mg three times daily, with an additional 2 mg or 4 mg in the evening if the course is severe. The duration of therapy is determined individually and is on average one to two to three weeks. In chronic pain syndromes, treatment may last from two months to one year.
Tizanidine should be discontinued gradually to avoid the risk of high blood pressure and tachycardia. This is especially true for patients who have taken high doses of the drug for a long time.
If the tablets are withdrawn abruptly, patients who have been on prolonged therapy have developed tachycardia and high blood pressure, which can lead to acute cerebral circulation disorder.
